Hildebrand’s mission is to transition families out of homelessness to safe, affordable, permanent housing while working to disrupt systems that lead to poverty and homelessness.
Since 1988, we’ve been driven by the vision that everyone deserves a home. Founded to meet the needs of greater Boston’s Black community, we’re an explicitly anti-racist organization that believes having a home is fundamental to everyone’s dignity, as well as health, wellness, and security. As one of greater Boston’s largest providers of emergency shelter for homeless families, we house more than 200 families each year in our 73 scattered site apartments, five congregate living programs, and three permanent housing complexes, which are located throughout Cambridge, Chelsea, Dorchester, East Boston, Hyde Park, Mattapan, and Roxbury.
Hildebrand’s value lies in its ability to build strong relationships with families.
Creativity and Initiative: We promote an environment where new ideas thrive, innovative solutions can emerge, and compelling results are recognized.
Communication: We are dedicated to active and effective communication between all levels of the organization and with our external stakeholders.
Diversity: We embrace diversity in our staff, partners and stakeholders. We commit to inclusivity and representation of all identities present in our community within our own decision-making and staffing structures.
Equity: We believe in the importance of fairness in opportunities and in accountability to fair outcomes in all of our work.
Above all, we care. Our staff goes the extra mile for our families time and time again, getting to know them as individuals, recognizing their individual circumstances and unique strengths, and offering them hope and compassion as they start to heal and rebuild their lives. We’ve also been intentional as an organization about building a caring and supportive community of staff and board members.
